The very first Hands On Jackson was a huge success. It was a living tribute of the good things that happen when organizations and volunteers all come together to achieve a common goal-helping our neighbors. Mountain Projects, The Department on Aging and Jackson Neighbors In Need helped to organize the effort. Two hundred volunteers appeared in the early morning of Nov. 1st at First Baptist Church for a hearty breakfast provided by Duke Energy and East Sylva Baptist Church. They fortified themselves for a long day of cleaning gutters and yards, building ramps, doing small repairs and rebuilding a deck. Thirty-five projects were completed. Ten thousand dollars was raised for this effort and many local businesses were sponsors. This year’s inaugural event was so successful that plans are underway for 2019 and the first planning meeting is already scheduled.
All are welcome to volunteer for the 2019 event.
